ASK A COACH CORNER
Can you explain the ride groups and the importance of the groups?
Ride groups are an important part of supporting athletes and risk management. Ride groups are determined by Coach Missy after the Skills Assessment at the beginning of the season. There are three factors that determine ride group placement:
Skills Assessment
Mini Time Trial time
Student's goals and desires for the season
These ride groups will be closely monitored moving forward to help build students' skills. Ensuring riders stay within their group allows them to build skills aligned with their assessment, maintain a speed within their ability, build confidence, and keep students safe.
Ride groups are always led by a level 2 or 3 NICA coach and usually have at least one additional coach as a sweep. Each group will ride at a different pace and have a different focus.
Athletes who are advancing skills, or who feel they are too challenged have the opportunity at any time to discuss with Coach Missy and explore the possibility of a group change.
Some activities will be done as a whole team, while rides generally are split into the groups.
The three ride groups are:
Hammerheads
Makos
Tiger Sharks

Families and guests are welcome to hang out in our team tent area. We ask that chairs are setup mindfully as to not block traffic flow and team needs. Remember - the primary function of the tent is to support the athletes and coaches. If you are coming to spectate, support, etc.... please consider bringing your own folding chairs, fans, water, and a cooler with food and snacks for the day.
Reminder - you must have a race plate to ride the course for any reason. Anyone on a bike must be wearing a helmet....parents, students, siblings, guests, etc....
We are looking forward to a fun and exciting event!!!!! Can't wait to see you all there! 💖
